ST. GEORGE – A woman was injured at about 12:30 p.m. today when the all-terrain vehicle she was riding rolled over at the sand dunes near Sand Hollow State Park.
It appeared the woman suffered head and back injuries as a result of the accident and she was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center by Hurricane ambulance, Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy Darrell Cashin said.
The woman was with a group of people and following her husband who was driving an ATV in front of her, Cashin said, when she veered to the right and then over-corrected causing the ATV to roll over.
The accident happened just north of the first sand dune at Sand Hollow State Park, Park Ranger Jon Wikan said. The woman is from out of state and she was the only one on the ATV when the accident happened.
The victim was evacuated from the sand dune area with assistance from Washington County Sheriff Search and Rescue and the Hurricane Fire Department.
The accident is under investigation by the Sand Hollow State Parks Division.
