ST. GEORGE — A single-engine plane skidded off the runway Sunday afternoon at St. George Regional Airport.
Shortly after 12:40 p.m. Sunday the St. George Communications Center received a report of an aircraft that crashed at the St. George Regional Airport, St. George Police Sergeant Johnny Heppler said.
As officers responded they found that a single engine aircraft crashed toward the end of the runway, leaving the pilot uninjured, Heppler said.
The aircraft is a 1967 Cessna 180H, out of Alberta, Canada, according to registration documents located online.
No injuries were reported in Sunday’s incident. It appeared that the accident was a minor crash, and one that happened toward the end of the pilot’s landing, Heppler said.
Further research showed that this particular plane was involved in a previous accident while landing at Chilliwack Airport in Chilliwack, British Columbia, at 1 p.m. on October 20, 2012, according to a report by the Aviation Safety Network.
There were four occupants in the plane when the accident in 2012 occurred, and all four exited after the crash without major injuries. The cause was determined to be a strong cross wind that caught the aircraft and propelled the plane into a water filled ditch.
The St. George Police Department and the St. George Fire Department responded to Sunday’s incident.
