ST. GEORGE – A collision caused by a driver blowing through a stop sign at 1000 East and Tabernacle Street Thursday morning sent one car ricocheting up onto the sidewalk.
The crash happened at approximately 8:33 a.m., St. George Police Officer Lona Trombley said. It involved a red 2005 Chrysler Town and Country minivan driven by a 52-year-old woman and a gray four-door 2009 Honda Civic driven by a 38-year-old woman.
“The Civic was at the stop sign waiting to go eastbound on Tabernacle crossing 1000 East,” Trombley said. The minivan was southbound on 1000 East.
“The Civic pulled out in front of the minivan, causing the minivan to hit the Civic,” Trombley said.
Both vehicles ricocheted to the east side of 1000 East. The minivan went up on the sidewalk and hit a rock, Trombley said.
“It’s a good thing no one was on the sidewalk,” she said, “because that could have gone a whole lot worse.”
The driver of the Civic was cited for failure to yield at a stop sign.
Airbags did deploy in the collision. The driver of the Civic complained of shoulder pain at the scene of the accident. However, no one was transported for medical attention.
The incident was initially called in by a Washington County Sheriff’s deputy who happened to be in the area and was the first to respond to the crash.
The St. George Fire Department and the St. George Police Department also responded to the incident.
Both vehicles were damaged in the crash and had to be towed from the scene.
