WATCH: Police ask public’s help identifying stolen Jeep suspect

ST. GEORGE — Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man in surveillance footage believed to be a suspect in a stolen vehicle investigation in Moab.

“Anyone recognize the man in this video?” the Moab City Police Department asked in a post on its Facebook page Monday, acknowledging that the quality of the video is poor but that it’s all investigators have to work with for the time being.

Authorities are searching for the man caught on the surveillance video after identifying him as a suspect in the theft of a yellow Jeep rock crawler with a Georgia license plate.

The Jeep was parked at Canyonlands RV Resort & Campground when it was stolen on Aug. 31 at approximately 10:30 p.m., officials said. The stolen Jeep was recovered by police on Sunday, but the suspect has yet to be identified.

The suspect is believed to be a white man in his 20s with long, dark hair, a thin build and tattoos on his left arm, according to the Police Department.

The man was in the company of a black dog, police said, noting that the dog was possibly a Labrador Retriever.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Moab City Police Department at 435-259-8938.

Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
