IVINS — Night owls in northeast Ivins should be prepared for the lights to go out in the late night hours for the next two nights.

Rocky Mountain Power says because of maintenance, more than 2,000 customers in the northeast area of Ivins will be without electricity in the overnight hours early Wednesday and Thursday.

While not stating which customers in particular will be affected, an operator from Rocky Mountain Power said 567 customers in northeast Ivins will be without power from around 11 p.m. Tuesday to 5 a.m. Wednesday, while 1,537 customers in northeast Ivins will be without power from 11 p.m. Wednesday to 5 a.m. Thursday.

“It’s at a time when a m majority of them will be sleeping,” the operator said.

Rocky Mountain Power says customers affected have received notices in the mail and email.

One concern people may have is if their food will be safe.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, food in the freezer should be fine for at least 24 hours and food in the refrigerator for a minimum of four hours as long as the doors remain closed in that time.

The CDC says more perishable foods like dairy, raw meat and luncheon meat might need some additional cooling if an outage is more than four hours via either dry ice or extra ice packs put in the fridge for an extended outage or the use of a separate cooler.
