WASHINGTON CITY — First responders could not shake the feeling of deja vu on Tuesday in Washington City as back-to-back incidents on Telegraph Street at the Washington Parkway intersection kept crews busy.

Washington City Police Department Lt. Kory Klotz said one incident, reported just before 2 p.m., involved a crash with airbags deployed on two vehicles.

The male driver of a red Nissan Titan was attempting to make a left turn from Telegraph Street and allegedly didn’t spot a Volkswagen Jetta had the right-of-way.

“His attention was diverted according to the officer’s report,” Klotz said. “The female driving the Jetta had a green light. A citation was issued to the driver of the Nissan for making an unsafe turn.”

Traffic was backed up on Telegraph Street for about one mile in each direction as crews removed both wrecked vehicles from the scene.

Hurricane Valley Fire District and Gold Cross ambulance crews arrived on scene to assist. Klotz said both patients declined medical attention at the scene.

“Luckily, everyone was wearing a seatbelt,” Klotz added.

Just two hours earlier, emergency crews were dispatched to the same location when a driver allegedly ran a red light, Klotz said of the incident that transpired around 11 a.m.

Witnesses reported the driver of a white Kia sedan was traveling westbound on Telegraph when the light at the Washington Parkway intersection reportedly turned red.

“The driver of that vehicle ran a red light,” Klotz said.

The Kia then struck a Volkswagen Jetta that was making the turn onto Telegraph from the parkway causing airbags in both vehicles to deploy.
