ST. GEORGE — A man was transported to the hospital, where he later died from injuries sustained in a crash on his motorcycle.
Shortly before 8 p.m. on Saturday, officers were dispatched to the 700 block of St. James Lane on a single-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle.
St. George Police Officer Tiffany Mitchell told St. George News the 48-year-old rider was heading west on St. James Lane as it was getting dark. He reportedly lost control of the bike, struck a retaining wall and was thrown from his seat.
The man, who was not wearing a helmet, reportedly struck his head in the crash, which caused traumatic brain injuries. He was transported to St. George Regional Hospital in critical condition.
Mitchell said medical staff performed lifesaving measures that ultimately failed, and the man was placed on life support. He was pronounced dead at the hospital the following day.
Responding officers learned the rider had just purchased the bike and was picking it up from St. James Park, less than 200 yards from where the fatal crash occurred. This initial information was corrected to reflect the rider was heading home from playing a round of disc golf on a motorcycle he had owned for several years.
The St. George Accident Reconstruction Team was called to investigate the cause of the crash — a process that took several hours to complete.
A GoFundMe has been set up for the rider, identified as Blaine Moore. Brandon Merzlock set up the account, writing that Moore had crashed after playing a round of disc golf at the Beaverwood Disc Golf Course.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Blaine’s friends and family. At times like these, we all want to know how we can help,” Merzlock wrote, adding that the funds will help the family with financial burdens and funeral expenses.
